Maslow’s hierarchy of needs have three types of needs. The bottom two tiers are basic needs which includes physiological and safety needs. Physiological needs are basic needs such as food, water, warmth, and rest. Safety needs are security and safety. For myself, this helps me relate to technology because of time management and financial management. With the basic needs, I need to know what time it is. There is a time to eat, sleep, and rest. When I create a money account online, it keeps up with all of my spending activity. It compares how much money I spend each month. In safety, technology keeps my accounts safe from hackers. They will alert me every time someone tries to access my accounts without my permission. Safety also notifies me when there is a weather advisory and alerts me with amber alerts. The middle two ties are psychological needs which includes belongingness, love, and esteem. Belongingness and love needs is having intimate relationships or friendships. Esteem needs is prestige and feeling accomplished. This helps me relate to technology in the greatest way. I have military friends that have to move overseas or deploy. I am able to keep in contact them through technology. When I first started college, I did traditional face to face classroom instruction. It did not work for me because I was a full-time employee. When I decided to do online instruction, I felt accomplished. The top tier is self-fulfillment need. Self-actualization is achieving one’s full potential including creative activities. Technology has given me full potential to be best that I can. I have two careers, a business, and I am a parent. I have been able to achieve all of this because of technology.
