Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level relates to your experiences with technology.
Technology has become a prominent factor in fulfilling my basic needs due to the nature of the world at the moment. There are things like food that can go both ways. I can cook a meal one day or I can order from a delivery app on my phone. Safety in my life is very technology-heavy. I use apps that protect my passwords from the outside and give me a sense of security. The use of social media isn’t very intertwined with my life. I connect with friends and family through messages and occasionally get lost in the endless scroll through Instagram or TikTok. I never have had a social media presence and usually like to keep my life private and not put it all over social media. For esteem needs, I like to use technology to learn more about things, like coding, music, gaming, true crime, etc. Having access to technology in this way lets people gain more knowledge within the fields that they want to explore. Finally, for self-actualization, technology allows me to stay connected with friends and family through messaging and gaming and fulfill my needs to excel in the future. Overall Maslow’s hierarchy of needs shows that technology holds an important role in my life and it is essential for most of my basic needs.
