Products and practices that helped me gain understanding of cultural perspectives is LingroHub. It has a lot of different activities, like listening, vocabulary and more.
This product helped me better understand values and attitudes in the Hispanic culture as well my own by introducing me to parts of the culture. I learned about different reasons people make certain foods, like on birthdays and holidays, and it was an enlightening experience.
Engaging in Communities
There is a lot of importance of engaging in my immediate community and the global community. Many parts of the US have communities that have bilinguism between English and Spanish, and it can be useful comminating for others, both in person and online.
Reflect on your experience and participation in these communities. Include artifacts such as photos, audio/video clips, etc.
Interpersonal Communication
TalkAbroad was an interesting website to use. It was pretty simple to use and sign up for with not too many hoops to jump through. It was also easy search for a conversation partner and sign up for a time to speak.
I went into the TalkAbroad conversations fairly worried. Though once I started talking to my conversation partners, I found that I probably knew more than I thought. Though I think if I were to do it again I would probably go over the vocabulary more.
Presentational Speaking
The presentational speaking activity I completed was one in which I talked about a dish I like. I talked about the ingredients, and the steps needed to make it.
In the presentations I completed, I was challenged in the sense that I sometimes struggled to not either speak too slowly or rush through the words. What I would would try to go over what I am going to say a bit more next time.
Presentational Writing
A presentational communication of compositions work I written is the writing I have done for projects in the class.
I have grown with each assignment because they all involve writing and using the words and language more. Figuring out how to construct sentences is something that became easier, and something that was difficult was figuring out what exactly to write. I simply tried my best to think about it. I still think I could do better on writing better sentences.
Interpretive Listening
The listening activities I have completed were ones involving listening to bits of conversation and advertisements about a variety of subject, like food and such.
Something that is unclear and challenging to me is a decent amount of the words. I can use the words I do know, context clues, to figure out the meaning, as well as the fact that I can listen to it again if I need to. My take away is that there are quite a number of interesting and unique foods in Spanish cultures.
Interpretive Reading
