PIckens- Launched himself into a Legend.
STEELERS. RAVENS. “Pickett launches it deep down the right sideline. Pickens is there. He makes the catch. He is gone. Touchdown Pittsburgh.” The call ripped through Acrisure Stadium as George Pickens crossed the goal line, and the entire place erupted like it had been waiting all day for that exact moment. One second the Steelers were hanging on for dear life, and the next they had the play that flipped the game and sent the Ravens home STUNNED. And that single moment is exactly why this rivalry still feels bigger than almost any other in football. Steelers and Ravens games always seem to come down to one mistake or one burst of brilliance, and this time it was Pickens who delivered the knockout blow.
Pittsburgh’s 17-10 win was more than just one cool highlight. It kept the Steelers at the top of the AFC North and gave them a badly needed confidence boost in the 2023 season where their offense has been questioned nonstop. For Baltimore, it was a painful reminder that chances do not matter if you do not finish them. Because for most of the afternoon, the Ravens looked like the better team. They led at one point 10-3 heading into the 4th quarter, and their defense had the Steelers completely locked down. Pittsburgh could not find any type of rhythm, the crowd was restless, and it felt like the game was slipping away. Then everything changed on one special teams play. Miles Killebrew burst through the line and blocked a Ravens punt, sending the ball skidding out of the end zone for a safety that cut the lead to ten to five. The stadium woke up instantly, and the Steelers defense followed with stop after stop that kept the game alive.
And still, Pittsburgh needed someone to actually make a play on offense. That someone was George Pickens. With 1 minute and 17 seconds left, Kenny Pickett saw Pickens lined up in single coverage and checked to a deep route. Pickens exploded quickly off the line, created separation, and tracked the ball perfectly before hauling it in and racing into the end zone as the stadium shook. It was the kind of moment that felt like it belonged in a movie, not a regular season game in early October.
After the game, George Pickens kept his explanation of the play pretty simple. “We saw the matchup we wanted,” he said in his postgame interview. “Kenny trusted me, and I just had to make the play.” It was a calm breakdown of a play that basically set off a earthquake in the stadium.Pickens finished with 130 yards, stepping up in a huge way with several offensive starters out. Pickett ended with 224 and the 1 touchdown that mattered most, even though the offense struggled for long stretches.
The Ravens will look back at this game and wonder how they let it slip away, as usual. They dropped multiple potential touchdowns, fumbled in the red zone, and failed to convert late when it mattered. Lamar Jackson threw 236 but was intercepted in the final seconds as Pittsburgh sealed the win.
But for the Steelers, this was more than an early season victory. It was a reminder that even when things look messy, they can still find a way to win, especially against their biggest rival. And thanks to Pickens, this game instantly joins the long list of unforgettable battles between these two great teams.
