Four majors similar to Cyber Security

There are many different fields of study to choose from at Old Dominion University that have a similar correlation to Cyber Security. I would like to take the time to list four majors that have peaked similar interests that I have found with Cyber Security.

Information Technology has peaked a major interest of mine because it digs deep into the future infrastructure of our society and future. New technological advances are created almost everyday to be more beneficial to humans and learning how to master the production of technology or at least within a certain domain will be advantageous to the modern human in preparation for a “cyber shift” in years to come. Pursuing a career as an IT can lead to high paying salaries as many individuals have the basic comprehension of information technology without extensive knowledge on said material. (IT) correlates with cyber on the digital aspect of the spectrum seeing that both careers are heavily involved with computer analytics.

Digital Forensics is another major that is very similar to Cybersecurity in the extent of providing a more in depth focus on investigating the formal analysis of databases and networks within a corporation. Most people who pursue this degree can end up with a job such as a computer network defender which share some of the main responsibilities of a cyber specialist. Both careers have hands on experience with investigating a cybercrime and using the proper tools to prevent these from happening in the future.

Computer Engineering is constantly evolving, modern computer engineers can create new software’s depending on their company’s best practices. Developing infrastructure to deter cyber criminals on a digital platform is a necessity for a major business in this era whose integrity is vulnerable to multiple attacks through the web. Cyber specialists and computer engineers must work together to create a multi-faceted software to ensure the safety of businesses and consumers for the next generations to come.

Criminal Justice was a previous major of mine and has many similar traits to that of Cyber security. Criminal Justice focuses on delivering justice to individuals who have broken laws or committed crimes. Another focus of criminal justice is to understand the mind of criminal, thus exploiting the actual reasons for their actions. Both Cyber & criminal justice relate to each other by identifying crimes both physical and digital, and then developing factors to minimize these actions from ever taking place again.
