Broadening Research and Instruction in Negotiations Grant Winners

The Thurmond Negotiations Lab would like to congratulate the winners of the Broadening Research and Instruction in Negotiations Grant (BRING), which offers Old Dominion University faculty and students the opportunity to be funded for their negotiations research and community outreach. This year’s recipients include two projects, one by Brandi Woodell and Katie Slauson-Blevins, and another by Veronica Thomas.

In their proposal, “Examining Negotiations on COVID-19 Vaccines: Understanding the Impact of Exchange and Power Relationships on Vaccine Hesitancy Among Family Members,” Drs. Woodell and Slauson-Blevins from the Sociology Department investigate negotiations within families related to getting the COVID-19 vaccine. They will study families in the community using qualitative interviews. The other proposal by Dr. Thomas, a faculty member from the Marketing Department, is titled “The Influence of a Salesperson’s Favor Request on Consumers’ Evaluation of the Negotiation.”  It will examine how salespeople asking potential buyers for favors influences the outcome of a sale. The project will consist of a series of experimental studies.

Both projects will provide important insights into the process of negotiating. The range of departments indicates that the field of negotiations is truly multi-disciplinary. We are excited to see the outcome of these projects over the coming years. Congratulations to Drs. Woodall, Slauson-Blevins, and Thomas!
