My sports media consumption “diet” has changed a lot throughout the years, especially when compared to five years ago. In 2021, just coming of and still facing the consequences of a world pandemic, my main focus at the time was far from sport media consumption, especially considering I was facing an important phase going through the toughest years of High School in one of the hardest stretches in my education journey (figuring out what I wanted to do in college etc.), and how I prioritize playing the sport over actually consuming it. But I still found some time to watch sports, mostly Benfica, a soccer team that at the time was the only team that I would take the time to watch the games live on TV, and even then, I would miss games because of practice or school. This didn’t mean I didn’t have any other interests in sport; it just meant that I didn’t prioritize it enough to watch it live, so anything else apart from Benfica games I would just watch the highlights (NBA, NFL).
Nowadays, it is very different, I basically shifted my focus, and today I basically live for sports. This change was mostly due to my increased free time but also due to my enrollment in Sport Management. I consume and follow more teams nowadays, apart from Benfica (that I don’t miss a single game) I have developed a relationship with the Dallas Mavericks and the Cleveland Browns, which I don’t watch every game, but I watch most games. My highlight consumption has also increased as now I watch highlights not only of teams I support but also exciting matches and competitions. Nowadays I also engage with sport media on social media a lot more, especially on twitter or “X”.
In the next five years I expect a change in my sport consumption, as with me hopefully working within the sport industry, I will be able to be present and work at a lot of live events and games. This would also mean the reduction of my current sport consumption, meaning I won’t have the time to watch as many sports as I am used to nowadays.
