The article introduces the field of social cybersecurity and how it fits into the world around us. Social cybersecurity is defined as the study of human behavior and social interaction regarding cybercrime and the cybersecurity methods formed in its wake. On a large-scale example of things such as information warfare between near peer countries and its global effect are examined through this lens on the large scale of things. It also goes into how the field is inherentially interdisciplinary in nature as there is a large combination of fields which in their totality form the field of social cybersecurity. It goes into one of the larger examples of the reason behind the development of the field, the Russian information blitzkrieg. A sustained campaign by the Russian propaganda apparatus aimed at spreading misinformation to cause tensions in other countries while fostering more positive notions about their own country. Learning how to fight mass misinformation campaigns takes understanding on a methodical level how is occurs within different demographics. These methods are referred to as Social-Cyber Maneuvers and they are the specific strategies used to spread social manipulation. These combined with the use of bots, or computer social algorithms which mimic a person’s online presence for manipulation are the backbone of the Russian misinformation campaigns.
