Cybersecurity Internship
Internships provide a personalized exploration of structured employment within the major. This course mandated an initial or ongoing internship that the I needed to obtain, as assignments are rooted in my concurrent internship experience. Course assignments defined the employment relationship, articulate learning outcomes, and offered opportunities for reflection to enhance my academic, career, and professional readiness. I needed to complete 50 hours of site work per course credit totaling to 150 hours. My internship was with the Griffiss institute Viceroy maven program in Whitemarsh, MD from June 3rd, 2024 – August 9th, 2024. The company works as a contracting cybersecurity group for the department of defense which gained my interest in trying to obtain more professional experience.
My skills in various areas of greatly increased to become valuable assets in my professional career after completing this internship experience. To start, my skill of communication has improved significantly after this experience due to routinely detailing plans and actions throughout my projects and preparing speaking points when needed for meetings. My skill of leadership had enhanced greatly as well due to having more confidence in my ability to lead in a team setting and seeking guidance when needed to better lead my team. One last skill I’ve improved on is my patience in various situations to make the best decisions and not put myself or other in a jeopardizing position.
