On July 6, 2018, ODU Women’s Studies major Kira Kindley launched Our Own Podcast. Using research conducted through TQHP, the podcast takes listeners on a tour of local LGBTQ history. This project is part of the larger work of the Tidewater Queer History Project and is being conducted under the guidance of faculty advisor Cathleen Rhodes, TQHP founder and director. Kindley was a student in Professor Rhodes’s Queer Studies class in the fall of 2017, and her podcast extends the student-driven Queer Walking Tour of Norfolk that began in that class. In each episode of the podcast, she takes listeners to a new location in Hampton Roads and tells them about its queer history. Kira was the first student winner of the ODU Gay Cultural Studies Grant for Research and Creativity, which provided funding for this exciting work.
