The development of new computer systems over the years has paved the way for the digital age. Smartphones, tablets, smart home devices, and computers are all examples of technology that have impacted our society in both positive and negative ways. Communication, education, and home automation are now easily accessible due to computer systems.

Today, we are able to communicate with individuals from across the world with the push of a button through text messaging, phone calls, or video calls. Location sharing is a communication feature used in smartphones that allows users to share their location with family members or friends. However, users should be careful when enabling this feature as criminals may be able to track them down.

Online classes offer students the ability to take classes without having to commute to their campus. Computers have made information easily accessible through the utilization of the internet. Users can now educate themselves on anything they desire, whether it’s training for a job, looking up recipes, or researching for a class. Unfortunately, some users may use the internet to search for unlawful things.

Smart homes grant homeowners comfort, security, safety, convenience, and entertainment within their living environment. Smart doorbells let users see who is at their door without physically being there. Users are also able to communicate with whoever is at their door through their smart devices. The downside of smart home devices is the security vulnerabilities. If a hacker gains access to a smart home device, it can result in stolen data, invasion of privacy, or a home intrusion.

The use of computers has made our society’s way of life more convenient, however, it is crucial that users implement cybersecurity principles whenever utilizing a computer system. Enabling multi-factor authentication, utilizing a firewall, and creating strong passwords are all different options that users can do to ensure the safety of their computers and themselves.
