Cyber networks are an essential part of our society and are used in various ways such as communication, online shopping, education, entertainment, healthcare, and work. Cybersecurity engineers must ensure networks are safe and protected from any potential cyber threats. Cybersecurity engineers are professionals that perform information security functions that include developing, designing, managing, and monitoring secure network functions. Cyber security engineers are increasingly needed to safeguard our networks as cyber threats rise.

The responsibilities of cybersecurity engineers are to oversee critical technological infrastructures to ensure the safety of hardware, software, data, and personal information. Risk assessments are conducted, security updates are implemented, and cyber awareness programs are established to aid in making cyber networks safer. Risk assessments must be conducted to identify the potential risks and the impact they can have on a network. The engineers can then inform the following organizations on prioritizing security measures on their specific systems. Cybersecurity engineers also aid organizations in developing a recovery plan after a cyber attack as a lesson learned for improvements and updates over time. Creating a recovery plan can ensure business continuity following a cyber attack. Conducting risk assessments aid in creating security updates and patches to combat the known risks. Cybersecurity engineers are responsible for being knowledgeable about the various cyber threats that can occur. With their knowledge, they can create cyber awareness programs to educate users on potential cyber threats and safe cybersecurity practices.

As technology continues to develop, the utilization of cyber networks will increase. This will also increase the need for cybersecurity engineers through a multitude of industries. Cybersecurity engineers should remain knowledgeable and open to the growth of technology in order to better the current cyber security practices and systems, as well as have analytic skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, and detail-oriented skills. By possessing these skills and keeping up to date with the current level of knowledge needed, cyber security engineers ensure the safety of our networks and keep users safe.
