Cybersecurity has many majors that relate to it. Whether it be due to similar course load or how they affect each other in the real world. Regardless of the reason, there are plenty of examples.
The first major that relates to cybersecurity is computer science. Computer science was my minor before I switched majors. many of the classes that I took for computer science are prerequisites for some of the classes that I have to take for cybersecurity. Computer science and cybersecurity both have to do with computers and electronics. Computer science deals with developing and testing systems while cybersecurity is about protecting them. programming is also a big part of cybersecurity. We must know how to program certain protection measure as well as check them to make sure that there are not any issues.
Computer engineering is another major related to cybersecurity. The first relations is the same as computer science. Some of the classes that I took for computer engineering also transferred over into cybersecurity. Computer engineering involves both software and hardware systems. Cybersecurity protects both of those systems.
Criminal justice could also be considered related to cybersecurity. The first clear connector is the fact that cybersecurity majors have to take a criminal justice class as part of their general education courses. As mentioned earlier, cybersecurity is about the protections of systems. cyber crime is a very common topic in cybersecurity. Without cybersecurity, there would be a much greater amount of cyber crimes. These crimes could range from the acquisition and distribution of data to complete shutdown/corruption of a system.
Another major related to cybersecurity is information systems & technology. Again, this major deals with computer systems. It can cover anything from programming to data and information storage. These are all thing protected by cybersecurity. It and cybersecurity go hand in hand. Without cybersecurity, who knows what would happen to all of the data that they work with.
