Deviance deals with going against norms, regardless of legality, ethicality, etc. Workplace deviance has been, and always will be an issue. Cyber technology has only increased the number of possibilities for said deviance. One form of workplace deviance that come with cyber technology is the possibility of someone leaking company information. This is something that could happen for a number of reasons. One reason could be that someone offered them compensation for the information. It could also be done if the employee knows they are about to be fired or if they are fired and their permissions have not been removed yet. It is common for people who are fired from their job to act on their grievances towards the company in some way. In the same scenario, someone could tamper with the company servers to either corrupt the data or allow others in that would usually not have access. Cyber technology has also introduced more ways to implement workplace deviance. Using the previously mentioned cases for example, these could all be conducted outside of a company building. Before the increase in cyber technology, a lot of workplace deviance took place in the actual office/ place of work. Now that there are an increasing amount of jobs that are able to be conducted from outside of the office, there are more ways to conduct workplace deviance. This also possibly makes it harder to pinpoint the source of said deviance. Since it may be conducted outside of a place with physical guards and security cameras, it could be harder to tell who committed the deviance and when/where the deviance occurred. There is the chance that the repercussions of the workplace deviance might not be felt by the company until a good amount of time has passed. While cyber technology might have many safety measures to try and prevent workplace deviance, it also increases the possibilities of said deviance.
