Proposal and Timeline

● The need I plan to address is that of the students, specifically those within the English department who are navigating their way between different concentrations or career options. The secondary audience would be Dr. Heather Weddington and the English Department as whole. Both of these audiences want the process for students to be simpler, more clear cut, efficient, and a key word that Dr. Weddington mentioned is “transparent’. Money and time is on the line for all, so the stakes are high.
● I intend to use Pages from the Mac, because I would like to learn a new design focused application, but I reserve the right for myself to revert to Word Doc if I think that my familiarity with that application will allow me to provide better work. The design elements I currently envision are possibly colorful and cultural, people focused, with a focus on the diversity of the world and students.
● I intend to do this people and diversity focused as I intend to use the Applied Language Studies concentration, where the focus is on language and language speakers from all sorts of levels and backgrounds. The reverse page, however, will be simpler to not be distracting and include a template or tables that will be interactive and usable for the students.
● My first step in this week is, now that I’ve decided on my concentration, will be to review all the assets provided us by Dr. Weddington. I will also gather assets from the ODU website, and if further information seems necessary I will reach out to Dr. Weddington. I will then pull the written copy I will need and gather it together to submit of the editing design. I will begin drafting basic design elements based on the written copy, drafting carefully and with an open-mind to work with all the data. I intend to have a working draft 1-2 weeks prior to the due date in order to edit and workshop, as well as for the usability testing day.
