A Sports Journal Farewell

The Past three months spent learning the ins and outs of sport communication have been incredibly challenging, and equally as rewarding. I learned a lot about sport communication as one would expect, but I also learned about myself and my future in the sport communication field. When I first began this class, I expected to learn and interact with social media more than I do in my personal life, but the sport media diet assignment really put into perspective just how removed I am from social media and what that means from a communication perspective.

I have gone out of my way to life a more “analog” lifestyle and as such I don’t have social media, I’m happy with the choice ive made to not participate in social media; but I am realizing that it effects  my ability to perform certain jobs within the sport industry. Many Sport communication jobs depend on the ability to stay in the know of current events, in today’s society breaking news is often reported via social media; before traditional news sources can push out information. I admit that by not being active on social media I am often several hours or even days late to pop culture news events, I go out of my way to stay up to date with my personal sports teams news but overall I am at a knowledge handicap when it comes to timeliness of breaking news.

The sport industry is my passion, and while certain aspects like the changing capstone project pique my interest, I am understanding that my future within the sport industry will not be in the communication sector. While I may not see myself within the sport communication field, I will regardless of the area I work in be utilizing skills and tools learned within this class that are used by sport professionals across all  sectors. I really am very grateful for all I have learned and will take away from this class, I am sad to be posting my last update on this blog; thank you for following along.
