This course is not like any course I have taken before. I was given the opportunity to be fully immersed in my research, and as a result of that I feel as though I have information that will be of use for me in the future. I was able to work independently and with my professor to create a final paper that represents my research in a way that is useful to me and could be useful for others. Along the way, I completed steps to make my work the best it could be, including a Prospective Essay, an Annotated Bibliography, and a Clarification Essay.

Prospectus

Above is my Prospectus. This was the first assignment we did as a part of this class that helped me to form my idea for my final paper. I started with the idea to investigate interest rates, as they have been a very large topic of discussion recently. Paired with my knowledge of economics from previous courses, I had a solid idea and was able to use the information from my other courses to aid me in my research.

The next step was to find sources that could be of use when writing the essay. I was able to find various different resources, and one that stuck out to me was written by Edge Lloyd. His book is all about how to make money by owning homes. This resonated with me because in the future I would like to facilitate Airbnbs as a source of income.

Then, I completed a clarification essay to help me organize my ideas as I was starting to form the essay. I was able to form my thoughts more fully and use my resources to help me develop my ideas. My goal when writing and doing this research was to be able to use the information in my future. I think I will be able to use the information about how to purchase a house once I start looking to buy my own home after I graduate college.

After completing a rough draft and tweaking it with my professor and my classmates, I put together my final essay. This essay has plenty of useful information about real estate including how to buy a house, the history of the housing market, best locations to buy homes in Virginia, and interest rates. These various topics will all be of use to me in the future as I try to facilitate Airbnbs. I will be able to have this information at my disposal, and I will be able to use it to recognize economic changes in the housing market as well. Overall, this course design helped me to improve my writing and research skills, and I can take away vital information that I can use for the rest of my life.
