CYSE 301 Lab #6 Wi-Fi Password Cracking.
One course experience that I really enjoyed was CYSE 301 Lab #6 – Wi-Fi Password Cracking. This assignment gave me the opportunity to apply what I was learning in a hands-on environment and helped me better understand how wireless network traffic can be analyzed to identify activity taking place across a network. I used tools such as Aircrack-ng, Airdecap-ng, and Wireshark to decrypt captured traffic and examine protocols including UDP, HTTP, DNS, and ARP.
One of the biggest takeaways from this lab was seeing how much useful intelligence can be gathered by analyzing network packets. By examining the traffic, I was able to identify devices, websites being accessed, operating system information, and other details that helped build a clearer picture of the activity occurring on the network. Depending on the purpose of an investigation, this type of analysis can help develop a detailed profile of a device’s network behavior and overall cyber posture simply by examining the ports, protocols, and packets being transmitted.
