In this assignment, I worked with wireless network traffic and used tools such as Aircrack-ng, Airdecap-ng, and Wireshark to decrypt and analyze packet captures. I examined both WEP- and WPA-protected traffic, used a dictionary attack with the rockyou.txt wordlist to recover a wireless password, and then decrypted the captured traffic for further analysis.

Once the traffic was decrypted, I used Wireshark to inspect UDP, HTTP, DNS, and ARP activity. This allowed me to identify devices, operating systems, routers, IP addresses, websites being accessed, and other details contained within the network traffic. I also analyzed communications between a Cisco Linksys router and a Huawei device and identified HTTP traffic directed toward www.taobao.com. By examining these patterns, I was able to develop a clearer picture of the user’s network activity and identify information that could potentially serve as actionable intelligence if the user’s behavior or intent required further investigation.

Overall, this assignment gave me hands-on experience with wireless security, password recovery, packet analysis, and network traffic tracing, while strengthening my ability to use captured network data to understand what is happening across a network.
