Introduction

Completing 150 hours of internship with ManyTek International has been an amazing and meaningful experience as a SOC Analyst intern. There’s so much I have learned compared to the beginning of the internship. I have gained a lot of confidence in my skills and myself to be able to work independently and with the team. Because of this internship, I can experience what being a SOC Analyst is like. I am more comfortable with cybersecurity tools than I was before.

Experiences and What I Learned

In these last 50 hours, I continued learning and practicing with the cybersecurity tools. I kept on working on different alerts, investigated and wrote a report based on the information I found. Working on reports and alerts repeatedly has strengthened my skills and knowledge far more than when I first began the internship. I am also able to use Security tools such as Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, IRIS, Wazuh, and OSINT tools with confidence.

In these last hours of my internship, I was able to learn how artificial intelligence and cybersecurity work together to improve security. AI is used in cybersecurity to help analysts detect suspicious behaviors, patterns and analyze data. AI can get things done a lot faster than humans; however, I also learned that analysts are very important to make a decision based on investigation and evidence in case of incident. AI doesn’t take the place of security analyst because it is very important to have a human judgement in cybersecurity.

Another important skill that I developed during the internship is communication and collaboration. Working with the team to solve problems, share ideas and discuss the alerts we’re working on has been an amazing experience and helped me improve my communication skills.  

Challenges and Growth

Some of the challenges I faced during this period were working on advanced alerts that involved more than 4 devices at the same time. It required me to investigate each device and collect information’s to prepare a report document and make a decision. It also took me some time to understand the new concept of how AI helps cybersecurity. However, with time and a lot of practice I was able to gain more technical knowledge and work on these kinds of problems comfortably.

Conclusion

Overall, it has been an amazing learning experience completing 150 hours at ManyTek International. This internship gave me a chance to apply the things I learned in school to real world cybersecurity problems. Looking back to my first 50 hours of internship I have come a far way in terms of knowledge, skills, communication and as a person. This experience has helped me understand that I want to continue pursuing my career in cybersecurity and continue to learn and grow.
