The statements describing myself using the dimension of ‘independent construal of self’ are 1 (beautiful), 2 (intelligent), 4 (lucky), 5 (strong), 7 (resilient), 9 (motivated), and 10 (hopeful).

The statements describing myself using the dimension of ‘interdependent construal of self’ are 3 (loved), 6 (empathetic), and 8 (different).

I believe myself to be very independent. I learned at a very young age that you cannot depend on others to survive, you have to be able to take care of yourself in the event that no one else can or will. I do not like depending on others for anything. Depending on others makes me feel powerless and in-debt to them. In my mind, if I cannot do something myself I don’t want others doing it for me. Being independent also can protect you from disappointment and deceit.

The only proverb I could think of is interdependent: there is no ‘I’ in ‘team’. It is difficult to come up with proverbs pertaining to the self because I don’t use them. I am also not exposed to them very often through social interactions. Another reason I consider myself to be independent is because I prefer to work alone rather than in a group. I am not the type of person to take charge in group/team activities. I often am talked over or overlooked. I prefer to work alone because I am able to bring my ideas to life and take full credit for them.

I chose this picture because it reflects on the challenge of life. For some, not all days are promising or good, but we have to keep moving no matter what.
