Lufthansa Airlines flight 431 from Chicago (ORD) to Frankfurt (FRA). Leave 4:00pm, arrive May 13 at 7:15am.

Lufthansa Airlines flight 1364 from Frankfurt (FRA) to Kraków (KRK). 8:30am-10:00am. Arrival at our hotel around noon on May 13.  Meet transportation services to take us into Kraków

Morning—Płaszów—former labor camp. Our guide will be Krzysztof Suszkiewicz.  Meet Krzysztof in front of our hotel at Szeroka St. at 9:30 AM. Return to Kazimierz by 1:00.

Reflection Day. You will have the entire day to rest and reflect on what we have seen.  You may choose to go back to Birkenau and wander or go back to Oświęcim.  Make your own transportation plans. The bus in front of Auschwitz runs to Birkenau every 15 minutes for most of the day if you are interested.

Sunday, May 19

Reading: Desbois, Holocaust by Bullets—entire—makes sure you’ve read the whole book as Michal Chojak will be addressing the book and Father Desbois’s work.  Make sure at this point you’ve also read, Desbois, “Rapes” from his book In Broad Daylight: The Secret Procedures behind the Holocaust by Bullets, 69-74.

Wednesday, May 22

8:30 AM SHARP: Meet faculty from Yahad-in Unum and spend the day with them. Visit to Killing sites and discussion with former “bystanders.”  Visit Piotrkow Trybunalski and Tomaszow Mazowiecki. Reading: Review Desbois, Holocaust by Bullets.

Meet with Hubert Buczak (investigator), Renata Masna (interviewer) and Michał Chojak from Yahad-in Unum and spend the day with them. Visit killing sites and discussion with former “bystanders.” Visit Piotrkow Trybunalski and Tomaszow Mazowiecki.

8.30 am Departure from the Hotel

9.30-11.00 am Visit to sites related to the prewar Jewish life in Piotkrow Trybunalski: the synagogue and the Bet Midrash, the Jewish cemetery

11.00–12.00 am Visit to sites connected with World War II and the Holocaust: Former ghetto of Piotrkow Trybunalski, first ghetto in German occupied Poland, the cemetery for Soviet prisoners of war, the Forest Wolborski, execution site of Jews from Piotrkow Trybunalski

12.00 am – 13.00 pm: Meeting with a witness of the execution in the Wolborski forest

1.00 – 2.00 pm Lunch break and departure to Tomaszow Mazowiecki

2.00-3.00 pm Traces of the Jewish past of Tomaszow Mazowiecki: The former Talmud Tora school, the building of the Mikveh

3.00-4.30 pm Visit of two mass execution sites in Tomaszow Mazowiecki

4.30 pm Meeting with a witness at the Jewish cemetery of Tomaszow, execution site of Tomaszow Jews

6.00 pm: Departure to Łodź
