“New Year, New Me” or Whatever They Say: Dealing with First Term Grades

So Boom… You have already received your Fall 2018 final grades and they may not have been exactly what you were expecting, or maybe they were. Either way you decided that next semester you are going to do things very differently. What exactly does “differently mean”, how exactly do you plan on achieving all of these amazing goals you have for yourself.

  1. Realign your focus
    1. rediscover your purpose and remember why you want to achieve these goals
    2. What are your long-term goals?
    3. What are your short-term goals?
    4. Discipline
  2. Plan Ahead
  3. Physically read your syllabus and write down all due dates
  4. Get Enough Sleep
  5. Do Not Cram
    1. Spacing and proper preparation will be vital in your academic success.
  6. Have Fun

Remember that no one is perfect and that life is about learning from your mistakes and being able to bounce back. Never beat yourself about the things that are out of your control. By following these basic steps above you will be able to accomplish your academic goals and see an improvement within yourself.

P.S. do not forget that if you EVER need help with any of the items mentioned above, do not hesitate to schedule an appointment with a Peer Academic Coach here at ODU.

Best Wishes and GOOD LUCK!!
