College Tips – Part 2

Here are some more tips to help you navigate college.

  1. Find Your Niche: There are over 300 student organizations on campus. Attend Activity Hour, involvement fairs, and interest meetings to find your niche on campus. There is something for everyone and you could even start your own organization if you would like.
  2. Use Social Media: Stay up to date with the latest campus and community events by checking your social media. Many of us already use Instagram and Twitter, but don’t forget about Facebook. Every class has their own group page.
  3. Cite Your Sources: Better safe than sorry! Keep this in mind when you are contemplating on adding an in-text citation or references page. If you referred to another’s work, make sure to cite your sources to avoid plagiarism. Otherwise, your violation will be noted on your academic transcript.
  4. Use ODU Resources: Your tuition pays for so much more than just your courses. You have access to the gym, group fitness classes, social events, on-campus transportation, research materials, software for your personal computers, and so much more.
  5. Drop a Class: This isn’t ideal, but it’s an option. If you don’t think it’s realistic to pass a course with your current academic progress, withdraw from the course before the final withdraw deadline. This won’t hurt your GPA and you could re-register for the course another semester.

I hope you found these tips helpful!
