How to Survive College on a Budget: Food

No need to reach for ramen noodles—and never worry about a rumbling stomach again! Below are some resources available to ODU students and those in the community who need a free and/or affordable meal:

  1. ODU Mobile App. Download the app to get notified whenever there is free food on campus! Sign-in with your ODU MIDAS account. Then, enable phone notifications from the app before clicking “Messages” at the bottom of the home page and selecting “Opt-in,” “Explore all opt-in channels,” “ODU Food Connect,” and finally “Opt-in.”
  2. Student Org Meetings. Most student organizations provide free food or light snacks and refreshments whenever a meeting is held. This is a great way to be involved on campus and fill your stomach!
  3. IGNITE pantry. All those affiliated with ODU can go to this food pantry to be provided at least one full day of meals each week.
  4. Dollar Tree. Unlike the previously mentioned resources that offer free food, Dollar Tree is where you can go to find snacks and food at a more affordable price.
  5. Hospitals. If you volunteer at hospitals, you usually have the opportunity to get a free meal at the end of every shift. This is a great resource for someone who has transportation, since you are helping your community and can get a variety of meals every single day!

No matter your financial status, ODU and the community offer various resources to provide you the meals you need each week!
