Life as a Night Student

Are you one of those students who work full-time during the day and then find yourself sitting in the classroom all night, just to repeat the same process the next day. If that is you then you are in the right place. Today we are going to discuss some tips that will help you excel in your night classes and help to balance your personal and school life.

Being a night student isn’t the end of the world, there are many benefits such as more peace and quiet, fewer distractions, more opportunity for open discussion and the ability to ask more detailed questions because of the time frame of the class.

According to an article posted on Rasmussen College ‘college life blog’, they mentioned that there are about 10 ways to balance working full-time and going to college at night. These included but were not limited to creating a designated study workspace, prioritizing organization, taking care of yourself, mastering time management skills, communicating and not being afraid to ask for help. https://www.rasmussen.edu/student-experience/college-life/working-full-time-and-going-to-college/

As a night student myself, I know that I personally struggle with keeping myself focused during lectures, simply because I’m so burnt out and tired from my workday that class is a hard task for me to complete. Instead of letting the class defeat me, I have found ways to conquer my tiredness and lack of focus. I have designed a schedule that allows me to read and study the material that we are going over that night beforehand. This allows me to truly tune-in and understand the material during the normal lecture so that I can have time to ask questions when I’m confused and take specialized on each topic. Taking notes before class has helped me remain focused in class because I want to make sure that whatever I have correlates with the teacher.

Night classes are not impossible but they can become difficult if you don’t prioritize your time and find study methods to fit your specific needs.
