As you all may have heard, Old Dominion University has closed for the remainder of the semester, spring commencement will now be virtual and all academic courses will be taught online. For some, this is the norm but for many, we have to adjust to having classes online which can be challenging if you are not used to this form of learning.
The frustration that stems from the university decision is solely in place to keep our community safe and healthy. This pandemic is growing exponentially, and while they work to control the virus, it is best that we limit our human exposure. During this time you may have numerous questions about what this means academically and financially, and you will get those answers as the weeks’ progress and more updates become available.
The number one thing I will recommend to anyone is not to panic during this time. Take time out of your schedule and our extended spring break to plan out the next few weeks. This includes:
- Emailing professors and getting updates on syllabuses.
- If you are working, make sure you keep in contact with bosses and see if there are at-home resources available for you to work from home, if coming to work becomes a problem.
- Start finding a way to budget your expenses and save money due to so many people being out of work.
- Start your spring cleaning early, get rid of clothes and organize your closet.
- Binge-watch Netflix or some of your favorite shows.
- Develop a new hobby
The list for things to do during this pandemic is never-ending, it just depends on what you want to do during your free time. I recommend that if you want to stay updated on the virus and government announcements, continue to watch the news and download any news and global apps.
