Let’s address the Elephant in the room….
I think we can all agree that 2020 feels like a never-ending cycle of torture. Every month we are greeted with an inevitable force of chaos. The US almost diving into WWIII, followed by the shocking death of Kobe Bryant, Corona holding us captive in our own homes and seizing are a sense of freedom, and the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many others (that are too many to list) due to racial injustice. Yes, in 2020 we are still having conversations about racial inequality. It’s as relevant as it was the moment Africans crossed the middle passage into a land that would ultimately deny them and label them as inferior based on their skin color. Whether we like it or not, racial injustice and inequality will always be a part of the dialogue in America. Unfortunately due to extensive ignorance and lack of accountability many people fail to acknowledge the problem at hand. Thankfully, our generation has had enough and is beyond ready to ignite change. People of all backgrounds have been plaguing the streets of cities all over the world in protest of the injustices affecting blacks. You can’t help but acknowledge and address the loud, angry, passionate chants of “Black Lives Matter”, “No justice, no peace”, and “Hands up, don’t shoot”. As a young black man, I’m playing my part in supporting the movement by supporting black businesses, staying informed, and protesting. What are you doing to combat systemic racism and injustices? In the wise words of Barack Obama, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
