Journal #15

After watching the TEDxHongKongSalon talk about digital forensics. It was very interesting and a bit odd to see his path into this area but really showcased the deep connections between digital forensics and social sciences. He shared his starting point in this career, a passion for technology and problem-solving that finally landed him in digital forensics-a discipline of recovering, analyzing, and preserving digital evidence for legal purposes. This is a career path that I had not considered, but it opened my eyes to see how the profession requires a unique combination of technical expertise and an understanding of human behavior. The speaker first made a point of the importance of understanding social contexts within the sphere of digital forensics. As a field that has to do with cybercrime, fraud, and breaches in privacy, digital forensics is not just recovering data but also motives of actions and how technology crosscuts human choices. So are social sciences, which have to do with understanding behavior through societies, cultures, and systems.
