Spotting fake websites might seem like an easy, but in reality it is actually easier said than done. An easy way for people to fall victim to a fake website would be if is when there is a phishing email sent that mimics the real websites GUI interface all except for having the same URL because it may have a slight difference. For example navyfederal.org (real) vs. navyfederals.org (fake). A person may not even notice the “s” at the end or assume that it is correct. In the past people were scammed due to a paypal.com link that changed the l to a “1,” paypa1.com. When people put their credentials in these websites the hacker now is able to use it on the real website and mess with peoples lives. The last type of fake website that may be made is a website that has severe discounts and is made to look like the original, it uses time and urgency to get customers to buy not realizing that they just bought counterfeit items.
