Professional Development Workshop

I gained valuable insight from this workshop on how to preserve information through oral history, where individuals share their stories verbally. I learned that these stories can be preserved in the form of audio recordings, video recordings, and written transcripts directly from the narrator. I also learned the importance of oral history in maintaining historical accuracy and preserving information as authentically and truthfully as possible. Additionally, as part of the activities, listening to and watching stories from various narrators gave me valuable insights and ideas on how to strengthen and refine my own storytelling skills.

Furthermore, the concept of oral history is also highly relevant to the field of cybersecurity, as it relates to the principle of integrity within the CIA triad, which emphasizes that information must remain accurate, consistent, and free from unauthorized alteration or manipulation.

Additionally, through this workshop, I also improved my teamwork skills by collaborating with another student to practice structured interview techniques, where we took turns acting as both the interviewer and the interviewee. This activity required active listening, clear communication, and the ability to ask thoughtful, open-ended questions while maintaining a professional and respectful dialogue. Working closely with a partner helped me strengthen my ability to collaborate effectively in a one-on-one setting. Through this exercise, I learned how to perform more effectively in interviews for cybersecurity roles by improving how I communicate my experiences and present my skills with clarity and confidence.

Overall, this experience enhanced my storytelling methods, communication and teamwork skills, and interview skills which are essential in cybersecurity roles that involve gathering information, building professional relationships and networking, conducting cybersecurity assessments, and engaging with stakeholders.
