MPH 776: The purpose of the service-learning project in this course was to provide a real-world experience in applying my skills and knowledge learned in the global health course and understanding the challenges of implementing them within a community. I chose to volunteer at a doctor’s office. My role was to assist the doctors and nurses with taking vitals, prescription refill requests, setting up rooms, and handling patient complaints. The knowledge I gained through this experience included learning about how individuals struggle with insurance covering their visits and prescriptions, hundreds of medical terms, and different medications. The skills I developed are critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, empowerment, and multitasking.
