A person’s social media can say a lot about someone or nothing at all. With social media, we control the persona we present to others based on the photos we upload. It allows us to share our interests with others; in this case, it would be what sports we identify with. The main sport I identify with is dance. Dance, in my opinion, is both an art and a sport. I’ve been dancing for nine years, and four of those years were competitive. Dance plays a big role in my life as it has allowed me to express myself and also find a community. Since being at ODU, I’ve developed a new perspective on dance because I’ve gotten to experience dance in a way I couldn’t prior.
As spoken about in a previous vlog, I have a love for basketball that my family developed. From a young age, I always remember coming downstairs and seeing some sort of basketball game during the season, regardless of the team playing. My family is from New York, and our favorite team is the New York Knicks even though they aren’t the best in the league, loyalty still lies. It’s hard to be a Knicks fan because they’ll start the season on a good note, but it never lasts, unfortunately.
With my major, I want to work in public relations with sports teams. To get some experience in that realm, I had the opportunity to have an internship with the athletic marketing department. During my internship, I got experience with ODU sports games behind the scenes and contributed to fan engagement at the games. These pictures highlight my view during football season and me with other interns during in-game. This internship grew my understanding of football and my interest in the game.
I chose these photos for my persona because they best represent my sports identity as of recently. Fitness is also a part of my persona, but I don’t have pictures to represent that. I wouldn’t consider sports a major part of who I am, but these few things keep me connected to the sports world.
