Systems Maintenance & Technical Troubleshooting

Systems Maintenance was performed during service in the United States Navy (2011-2015), Coursework was completed for CYSE 280 at Old Dominion University, Spring 2026.

Through my experience in the U.S. Navy as a cryptologic technician maintainer (CTM), I developed hands-on skills in maintaining mission-critical systems, resolving technical faults, and assisting in new system onboarding. Building on this foundation, my coursework has expanded my perspective into enterprise-level environments, where I have completed labs in Windows System Management and Security (CYSE 280) and developed a socket-based client-server application in CYSE 250. These experiences reinforced my ability to configure, troubleshoot, and understand system interactions across both systems and network environments.

Windows System Management and Security (CYSE 280)

Attached are images of results pages showing the successful completion of multiple hands on labs within the Cengage/MindTap platform. These labs included:

  • Installing Windows Server 2019
  • Configuring Server Core
  • Managing virtual machine networks
  • Administering Active Directory accounts
  • Managing local storage and virtual hard disks
  • Configuring server domain infrastructure

Through these exercises, I developed practical experience working within a Windows Server environment, reinforcing my ability to configure, manage, and troubleshoot enterprise systems in a structured setting.

Socket Programming and Secure Client-Server Application (CYSE 250)

This artifact represents my work in CYSE 250, where I designed a socket-based client-server application using Python. The project involved developing a simplified Battleship game that incorporated networking fundamentals, user authentication, and basic encryption techniques.

Through this assignment, I gained foundational experience in how systems communicate over a network, including establishing connections between a client and server, handling user input, and managing data transmission. The inclusion of authentication and XOR-based encryption introduced security concepts at a practical level, reinforcing how even simple systems can implement basic protections.

This project strengthened my understanding of how programming, networking, and security intersect, and it provided early experience with structured problem-solving in a technical environment. These skills directly support my ability to troubleshoot, configure, and understand system interactions within larger cybersecurity contexts.

To support this project, I developed both client-side and server-side Python code to handle communication, authentication, and encrypted data exchange.
