Exploring Culture
While taking Spanish 102, I had the pleasure to be introduced in numerous Spanish speaking countries and truly got the privilege to learn and understand their culture a lot more. In Spanish speaking countries, college students tend to live with their families or have their own off- campus apartment. Being a college student in the U.S. I could live similar just like them, however I could also live in freshman dorms on campus.
Since I am pursuing my Bachelors in History, I would love to travel to all the Spanish speaking countries, and taking this course would truly open up a language barrier I know I would have between the people. Being bi-lingual in the work field also brings you more pay and I love money
Engaging in Communities
Engaging into communities really allows you to fully dive in and learn more about that particular culture. Being involve truly brings more awareness and positivity.
I got involved with helping my community with my church. My church and I went to downtown Richmond, where there were numerous of homeless people staying at. We passed out blankets, water, food, and etc. Being able to be apart of this good deed really brought more positivity in my life. Seeing that I can make folks happen truly makes me happy and want to inspire people everyday to go out and do the same.
Interpersonal Communication
In Spanish 102, my peers and I received numerous oral assignments including an Talkabroad conversation with stranger who from Spanish- speaking countries. The audio assignments on Lingro Online definitely played huge role as well in getting us familiar and prepared for future assignments.
I can definitely say that speaking more and more in Spanish is really improving within me. If I would study more no telling where I could be right now. My professor truly helped me in every step of the way, even if I got stuck she made sure to give me limited help, but still make sure I knew what I was doing. In class when we go over material and pronounce words wrong, she would correct us and make us say it again, that truly did my confidence moving forward in class.
Presentational Speaking
In class we had to purchase two 15- minute conversations for Talkabroad. In Talkabroad I spoke about my favorite food and I got to know the person who I was conversing with favorite food as well. In Talkabroad I also spoke about family and described them as well.
This assignment was quite easy because my professor gave us questions we could ask them, but some moments I ran out of questions and didn’t understand what they were saying. In order to complete this assignment I wrote what I was going to say, I used words that I previously wrote down in class prior, so I could be able to study and memorize everything I needed. After I finished conversation I came to my senses that I need to study more and get familiar with all my vocabulary words and things to say because it would be a lot easier for me.
Presentational Writing
In Spanish 102, we had to write a couple essays using vocabulary words we learned to describe things we ate, how we prepared our bodies, and about our wonderful families. These essays made us put things we wanted to say in our own words about what we learned so far.
The schedule essay was really complexed because I had to write out key components about mental health and ways to get rid of it and I had to remember vocabulary words I learned to add inside my schedule. It was a lot of misspelled words and words with accents that I had. There were even words where I used the wrong conjugation and some mistakes were silly because I didn’t capitalize my words. Most of my mistakes are truly things that could get better and my professor helped me by marking my mistakes and correcting it.
Interpretive Reading
In Spanish 102, we usually read what’s been assigned us to read in class. My professor also gave us Spanish speaking countries to research about, which made me read even more. Reading is very important in Spanish because you can get more familiar with words.
Being in America and searching up things in Spanish, there is limited things they allow you to see, but when I search it up in English a whole variety of information and websites pop up.
