SPAN 201

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

While taking Spanish 202, I had the pleasure to be introduced to numerous Spanish speaking countries and truly got the privilege to learn and understand their culture a lot more. I learned about historical figures, who played a pivotal role in the Latin American art scene. Also in the beginning of the semester, our professor played hispanic songs. This would interest my love in new music.

Those practices helped me learn about Spanish speaking countries around the world more than I already knew. I wouldn’t say anything is super different from their culture than mine other than their religious beliefs, that was centered around sacrifices. Also they dress formal and informal, but where I’m from we call it “casual” or “professional.” We even wear informal clothes in a formal setting, but they do not

Engaging in Communities

Engaging in my Community is very important because coming where I come from, a lot of people who I grew up with didn’t get a chance to make or live up to their potential. So engaging in the community is very helpful because getting people off the street in order to stay out of trouble will help them in a long run. The global community also needs help because everyday people are damaging the earth, causing problems in the long run.

I got involved in helping the community by handing out blankets, food, bottles, and clothes to homeless individuals. Being apart of that really opened my eyes and made me realize that I am very blessed. I’m very thankful for being in the position I am in.

Interpersonal Communication

I completed 2 TalkAbroads this semester. I had the opportunity to speak with individuals from Ecudaor and Nicaragua. They both explained their cultures very and well I’m glad to had the opportunity to learn about them.

The assignments that I completed weren’t easy, I used my mistakes as motivation to study and get better. Some assignments I was very lost on, but all I had to was just ask questions. Asking questions played a pivotal role in my improvement. Also with TalkAbroad I got better with understanding Spanish speakers and being able to communicate.

Presentational Speaking

Speaking activities I completed were of course the 2 TalkAbroads, Oral Project with partner, and whenever the professor called on us to speak about the topic at the time.

The TalkAbroads lasted about 15 minutes each and I talked about ecotourism and clothing with both. For Project 16 my partner and I talked about our differences with the inclusion of future and conditional verbs. Sometimes my professor would call on us to read what was on the board or she’ll ask us questions for us to answer in Spanish.

Presentational Writing

In Spanish 202, we had to write a couple essays using vocabulary words we learned to describe a historic event. These essays made us put things we wanted to say in our own words about what we learned so far.

The historic event in class that we wrote about was my favorite. I talked about a family going on a trip, while on the trip the kids went on to play by themselves, but got lost. They stumbled across a man who took him to his house. The kids believed the man was going to kidnap them. However, their parents showed up at the door.

Interpretive Listening

In Spanish 202, I sat down and listen to latin music and listened to numerous of videos in Lingrolearning.

The beginning of the semester, we listened to music where we had to identify words that we familiar with. We also did an assignment where we listened for words in a particular song that we chose and I identify them with the answer choices that were listed. In lingrolearning is also where we had videos helping us with vocabulary and the creation of perfect sentences with conjugations.

Interpretive Reading

In Spanish 202, we usually read what’s been assigned us to read in class. My professor also gave us Spanish speaking countries to research about, which made me read even more. Reading is very important in Spanish because you can get more familiar with words.
