Assignment Takeaway 5

Doing one simple act of kindness each day can make a stranger’s day. During the span of a week, we were challenged to do an act of kindness each day. Thankfully, I work in a behavioral health unit, so I do acts of kindness for strangers daily. My career is not just a job for me. I love that I can make a difference in a person’s life every single time I go to work. I am happy knowing that I could have potentially prevented someone from getting admitted again to our unit and I could have potentially saved their life. It is extremely rewarding to be kind to everyone because you do not know what battles they are facing.
Assignment Takeaway 4

Love is a beautiful connection you have with someone that brings you peace, happiness, and blessings. With my current relationship, I scored on the storge scale and it makes sense to me because my significant other and I began as friends before we formed an intimate relationship. The relationship grew off of the bond and trust that we had developed when we were just friends and it made our relationship very strong. Overall, love is having a significant other that compliments you mentally and physically.

A comedy act that Michael Richard produced back in 2006 resulted in many racial comments said by him. He became even more angered when an audience member mentioned that what he was saying was uncalled for. Audience members began to leave the comedy club due to the way Michael Richard was acting. Overall, he lost a lot of fans that day and respect.
I believe that Michael Richard’s main goal was to execute pain to the members of the audience that he was angered at. However, he made himself look extremely racist by his choice of words. He humiliated himself and hurt many people that attended his show. I do not believe that racist comments can be used without racial intent. Racial comments typically hurt the other party.
The reason why I selected the image above is because it is a reminder that we are all one. We are not better than the other race. We need to support each other to keep a positive world.

During this assignment, I selected eleven photos that represent who I am. I was able to see how beautiful and precious my life is. When I viewed the selection of my photos, I saw a daughter, a sister, and a mother. I was able to recognize how strong and happy my family was while I was growing up to become the hard working adult that I am today. I was able to see how I applied the way I was raised to my children and now I have two happy and healthy boys. Moreover, I was able to acknowledge how precious life is and how fast it can be taken away from you. When I was involved in my car accident, a truck sped out in front of me and I t-boned him going 50 miles per hour. I was lucky enough to walk away with only a dislocated thumb due to the impact from the airbag. I had to have surgery from it, but I am thankful that it was not worse. Furthermore, I was able to accept that you have to work hard to achieve your goals. I graduated high school in 2012 and eight years later, I finally graduated with an associate’s degree and I am working my way up.

I learned about the four different heuristics during this assignment. The four heuristics include: representativeness, availability, anchoring and adjustment, and status quo. I was unaware to how often I use the status quo and the anchoring and availability heuristic. We use the status quo heuristic every single day. If you are at work and decide to get a drink or snack out of the machine, your selection is the status quo heuristic because you more than likely selected an item that you are familiar with. When I am at work, I will typically get a coffee or an energy drink and a bag of chips or a snickers bar. There are healthier and interesting selections that I could choose from in the vending machine, but I prefer to select something that I know I will enjoy. Furthermore, I use anchoring and adjustment heuristic quite often. I enjoy finding free items and refurbishing them. Once I am done with refurbishing an item, I typically post it for a higher price than I expect to receive. The reason why I post it for a higher price is because interested buyers will usually offer a lower price for the item. However, if they offer me the full amount, I make a profit because I did not expect to receive the full amount of the asking cost. In conclusion, I did not recognize how much these four heuristics are involved in daily life.
