  1. (Artifact 6 The Self Across Situations)

  2. (Artifact 10 Social Influence)
I believe that the norm violation exercise was pretty fun. Doing something out of the norm can create some interesting reactions from others. Overall, it gave me much insight on others reactions due to breaking a norm.
The red person in the image attached for social norms is the one who does not go along with the typical norm.

  3. (Artifact 9 Liking, Love, and Other Close Relationships)
I enjoyed this module because I believed it to be true. I have caught myself looking for older and stable men due to my stability and the older men tend to seek younger women. It is a very interesting assignment.
The picture that I selected for this artifact was a couple holding hands. It is just to represent a relationship.

Module 14 (Dealing with Adversity & Achieving a Happy Life

I would define happiness as any positive emotion. It could be joy, excitement, contentment, etc. Overall, a happy person is satisfied with their life. I do believe that the subjective happiness scale is fairly accurate. However, anyone could have a very rough week, but be blessed the following week. I scored a 3.75 on the subjective happiness scale, but I am a college student, a working adult, and a single mother.  Most cultures view happiness as a personal goal. Being happy is something that many cultures cherish. The picture that I posted is what happiness is to me. My children is the one thing that makes me happy and content with my life.

Module 8 Archive (Stereotyping, Prejudice, & Discrimination)

I believe that stereotypes have changed over time due to intergroup relations. Intergroup relations are when a variety of groups interact with each other. We have become more open to interacting with other social and racial groups. While viewing the results of Katz & Braly (1933) survey, blacks were grouped as superstitious and lazy. Moreover, the Gilbert (1955) survey grouped them as superstitious and musical. I grouped them as athletic and family-oriented. I believe that stereotypes are changing because the world is evolving and we’re growing as a society. All of my results were more positive for each group, except for Irish. I put Irish as quick-tempered and impulsive because Irish runs in my family and I have a few quick-tempered family members. Overall, I believe that all members of society are flourishing for the better.

Module 4 Archive (Social Cognition)

The media has a huge impact on the way we view a variety of topics. The media has brainwashed us into worrying about the wrong things. Society is so paranoid about the crime rates to where we are spending millions on protecting ourselves by buying security cameras, weapons, or moving into a gated community. The news is reporting that crime is rising and in actuality, it’s not. Crime is down by 25%. Teenagers have a higher chance of becoming victims of crime than the elderly and 1/6 black teenagers become victims of crime. Overall, people are killed more by typical things, such as stairs or bikes.

Reporting acts of terrorism does give us a distorted perception on that subject. For example, when 9/11 occurred, all we heard in the news for months was the terrorist attack. The news had most of us afraid of Arabs, Muslims, and Serbs

Module 3 Archive (Social Psyc)

Similarities Attract: 1) People are attracted to similarities because it is consistent with attitudes and values. 2) Commonalities bring folks together. Shared values is what founded this country.

Opposites Attract: 1) I believe that opposites attract because you may not be comfortable with or bad at something and finding someone who possesses that quality will help you develop that quality. Simplicity and complexity need each other. 2) People often find having an “opposite” more often because it is “dangerous,” outside their comfort zone. An opposite can lead to adventure!

I believe these statements to be true. We all have different values and morals. Some of us may strictly be attracted to people who are similar to us because that is more comfortable. On the other hand, some of us may be attracted to opposites because it leads us to getting out of our comfort zone. Moreover, some of us may be attracted to both, like myself. I have friends who are similar to me, but I also have friends who take me out of my comfort zone and make me more adventurous. I found this assignment intriguing because I was able to see what my friends believe to be true. I thought all of my friends would say that “opposites attract,” but when I had friends who said that they believe that similarities attract, I was surprised and interested in hearing their point of view.
