SPAN 101

Reflections

Prior to taking Spanish 101, I had a very basic understanding of Spanish based upon my familial background. Unfortunately, I was not exposed to Spanish frequently enough to retain anything that I have previously learned. Now, after taking a deep dive into the basics in a way that allows me to communicate with others in Spanish, I feel much more capable of holding a conversation. I intend to utilize my continued knowledge of the Spanish language in my current field of work along with any way of life since I am able to effectively communicate (1) about myself, (2) my daily schedule, and (3) about other people in my life. The biggest challenge for me has been ensuring that I utilize the proper conjugations/ gender pronouns. I overcame these challenges by meeting with and discussing my education with Profesor Guadano. With the activities in ContraseƱa and conversational pieces like what we have done in Flipgrid, it has made it much easier to comprehend and learn to use the Spanish language in every day conversation.

Presentational Speaking

I participated in Flipgrid as well as held conversations with Professor Guadano in Spanish throughout the course of this semester. During this time, I would listen to any constructive feedback with regards to my vocabulary usage and pronunciation so that I could implement that during my practice

Presentational Writing

Throughout the course of the semester, there have been several writing activities including on exams and in the discussion board posts. At every opportunity I could, including on activities where Spanish was not required, I made a good faith effort at utilizing the vocabulary I knew. I also did a lot of practice using Lingro Learning.

Interpretive Listening

Through Flipgrid, Lingro Learning and Conversations with the professor, I was able to listen to Spanish conversation and understand the vocabulary being learned at the appropriate time.

Interpretive Reading

Throughout the course of the semester, we were given several prompts whether on exams or in homework assignments that were provided to us in Spanish. Again, through the utilization of this method, it gave me a further understanding of the Spanish language.

What I really enjoyed most about the interpretive reading was that it showed me that there are several rules to follow in the language of Spanish, just like in English. Once I learned that, it made understanding Spanish easier and it further made me a better writer in Spanish. With paying attention to certain language patterns, I was able to establish a basic understanding of the many different things such as singular- plural and gender.
