About Me

My name is Christina Garcia and I am from Newport News, Virginia. I was raised in a low-income area in Newport News, Virginia until I was about fifteen (15) years old, when I move to Youngstown, Ohio. Having always lived in economically distressed areas, I have had the ability see the impacts and effects that under representation has on our communities. I am a mother of a beautiful three (3) year old girl and she is the gift that keeps on giving. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my daughter, read books, crochet, and watch anime. Anime is quite entertaining, but there are always deep and virtuous life lessons embedded in the story lines, which keep me on the edge of my seat.

I currently work for and run a local law firm. We specialize in workers’ compensation and social security disability. With the position that I am in now, I am able to help under represented communities, such as the Hispanic community, in an impactful way! Since Hispanics are some of the most essential workers, one would think that this is not an issue, however they often face many hurdles when trying to seek legal representation. I take pride in being able to assist as many people as possible, no matter the language barrier. One of my goals with taking Spanish, while at ODU, is to be able to communicate better with the Hispanic community, so that my knowledge in that language continues to grow.
