Penpal Connection – Making the connection
When it comes to making meaningful connections in sports, the first step is always to trust yourself. Taking that leap of faith to reach out and build relationships can be daunting, but it’s the key to expanding your professional network and creating opportunities. One of the most impactful connections I’ve made over the years was through LinkedIn, where I reached out to numerous professionals in the industry. But there’s one connection that stands out—Josh Marriner, the Director of Player Engagement for the Arizona Cardinals.
Josh and I connected on LinkedIn, and what began as a simple professional outreach has blossomed into a valuable mentorship. Josh is an ODU (Old Dominion University) alum and has built an impressive career in sports, particularly in the NFL, where he works closely with players to ensure their personal and professional development. His role at the Arizona Cardinals is all about making sure players are supported beyond the game, which is an area I’m deeply passionate about.
Over the years, Josh has become a mentor to me, offering advice, sharing insights into the sports industry, and providing guidance on my own career journey. His willingness to support and share his experiences has made all the difference as I navigate my path in sports. Josh’s success in a male-dominated industry is inspiring, and his dedication to creating positive environments for athletes is something I admire deeply.
Making that connection with Josh taught me the importance of trusting your instincts and reaching out to others. In the world of sports, you never know where a simple connection might take you. It might just lead to mentorship, growth, and new opportunities!
