Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Artifacts
The first artifact shown is my first project. Overall, I found the project enjoyable as it gave me freedom to style. For this assignment.we were given the task to create outfits based on the individuals personal style. In determining what they should wear I took into account the weather they live in, what they don’t want to show, and something new they wanted. Although I did find it challenging remembering each item, I always tried to correlate each clothing item to a specific climate.
The second artifact is one of the highest score I received on projects. However, Proyecto 2 was very challenging for me. One task I struggled with was understanding the story. To better understand it I reread the story more than once. It was a timely task but at the end I had a better comprehension of Finitas story. In addition, this story was very relatable to what people from hispanic countries experience. Getting the chance to expand on her story was a great way for me to expand in the Spanish language in my own way. Coming from Spain, my great grandma experienced similar situations as Finita. Because of this I was able to expand based off my grandma’s personal experience. I also added more drama or “teatro” to the narrativa.
Exploring Culture
Throughout the entirety of Spanish course 201 I learned the in depth experience of the hispanic culture. In regards to clothing, art, relationships, and communication it was very different and similar form the English language. Although prior to this class I had no attached stereotype and misconceptions towards the Spanish culture I was aware of the many out there. Being that they are coming from a different country they are automatically classified as immigrants and discriminated towards. This is unnecessary and hurtful towards the hispanic community because of there many contributions to society and impact. The negative ideology American have towards that community must be detached.
Engaging in Communities
Including yourself in an engaging community and global community holds a substantial amount of purposed reasoning. Although it may seem unnecessary, putting yourself into these communities will widen your knowledge and familiarize your learning of the Spanish language.
My audio from Talk Abroad 1 can be found below.
Interpersonal Communication
In English, give a very brief 3-4-line description of TalkAbroad and other interpersonal oral/audio activities, discussion board and other interpersonal writing/reading activities you completed this semester inside or outside of class for or related to your Spanish learning. (See Modes of Communication link for definition and examples).
My reflections on these interpersonal communication activities revealed that they each were valuable in their own way. It was challenging at first for me to express myself spontaneously and fluently in TalkAbroad conversations. In spite of this, with each session, I was able to express myself more fluidly and with greater confidence. By contributing to discussions in class, I was able to practice written communication and engage in meaningful conversations with my classmates. As I became more proficient at sharing my thoughts clearly and offering insight, I realized the value of active listening and responding thoughtfully to the contributions of other. This because a joyful task as I felt like a human translator when listening in class lectures.
Presentational Speaking
In this semester I had the chance to complete two Talk Abroad. Out of all the assignments I completed I find Talk Abroad to be the most daunting task. Before the video chat I always find myself very nervous on whether or not I will remember what to say. To overcome this problem I usually try to study with a partner, giving them questions to ask. Unaware on what will be asked, I have to be prepared in regards to my vocabulary and understanding of the speaker.
Reflecting on the presentational speaking activities I completed this semester, I encountered various challenges that contributed to my growth in Spanish proficiency. One assignment I would like to focus on is my first Talk Abroad about ecotourism. I found the content on this unit to be very heavy with information. In addition, I faced confusion when understand the meaning of each word and how it should be used. To face this challenge I tried to match each vocabulary word to environmental circumstance. For example global warming and how trees or arbols help improve this problem.
Presentational Writing
In this semester I had many opportunity to participate in presentational writing. Some examples of this include our historical narrative story , our expansion of La Finite Gringa, and many of the assignments/ quizzes that took place.
Throughout the class, we took many quizzes that involved forming sentencing using th grammar and vocabulary we learned.Taking into account past present principles.
Interpretive Listening
This semester, I participated and immersed myself in interpretation of the Spanish language by listening and watch audios or conversation. Majority found on LingroLearning. I watched conversation that included dialogue/text messages between an intimate couple. In the text message thy app read to be arguing out of jealousy. This took me long to understand but as I continued to use the vocabulary as I watched the video it became easier to understand. These activities ranged from listening to dialogues, podcasts, and songs to news broadcasts and audio recordings of lectures.
For this reflection I would like to focus on the video we watched as a class that followed a couple arguing over the phone. As a class we were told to determine what is happening in this video. It took us a while, being that we did not understand what was being used over text. At the end we figured out the boyfriend/el novo was jealous of the girl friend going out. This was interesting to see as it happens very commonly in America. It was put at a hispanic perspective.
Interpretive Reading
This semester, I engaged in interpretive communication activities for my Spanish learning, which involved reading El eclipse, text messages, La Finita Gringa, and other short text. Comprehension of each did not come over night. had to be sure to analyze and understand what each story mean. Rather than skipping over information that may be important I look at each entirely. After reading each I retuned to class with better knowledge of hispanic culture, history, and means of communication.
This semester, I engaged in interpretive communication activities for my Spanish learning, which involved reading various materials such as articles, stories, and resources from the Language Learning Center. These activities aimed to enhance my comprehension skills and deepen my understanding of the Spanish language and culture.
One of the interpretive communication activities I completed this semester I would like to focus on is the article El eclipse (seen above). I found this very entertaining as it came with a visual and dialogue to help us to understand the story in-depth. Looking back on what I experienced with interpretive communication activities and reading assignments, I faced challenges related to vocabulary comprehension and understand the context of the story.
