“Beyond the Game: Pen Pal in the Pro Sports World”

Building Connections: My Journey to Finding a Sports Professional Pen Pal

Making meaningful connections in the sports industry can be both challenging and rewarding. My journey to finding a sports professional pen pal was filled with trial and error, but ultimately, it led me to an incredible mentor in the field. At first, I reached out to the basketball coach I had interned for as a social media assistant last semester. Unfortunately, I received no response. Undeterred, I decided to broaden my search by contacting several other coaches from schools around my hometown, as well as professionals I had been following on social media. Despite my efforts, I did not receive any promising leads.

Realizing I needed to take a different approach, I turned to my sister, who lives in Atlanta, Georgia. She has an extensive network in the sports industry, so I asked if she knew any professionals who would be interested in being my pen pal for this class. That’s when she introduced me to Jimal Deas. After reaching out to Jimal and explaining the purpose of the pen pal assignment, he was happy to participate. We began talking, and he shared a brief introduction about himself, his career, and his expertise in the sports world.

Meet Jimal Deas

He graduated from Benedict College and has dedicated his career to helping athletes achieve peak performance and prevent injuries. Connecting with Jimal has already been an enlightening experience, and I am eager to learn more from his insights in the coming weeks. His passion for sports performance therapy and dedication to helping athletes succeed make him an ideal mentor and pen pal for this journey. I look forward to sharing more about our conversations and the knowledge I gain through this unique connection!
