Engaging instruction is how music educators teach. The students can’t learn their music if they are not actively participating in class. We give notes and rhythms out to our students, but if we never hear them sing we will never be able to put on a performance. During my mursion lab activities it was really hard for me to teach my lessons because of the many things the students couldn’t do, i.e. clapping together and repeating after me together as a class. I believe engaging my students during instruction is the best way to maximize my class time. Allowing my students to sing and make music is the best way to prepare them for their concerts. It also teaches them important lessons because if they do something wrong they learn how to self-correct their mistakes. I learned from my activities for class how to effectively incorporate things my students find interesting into the lesson so that they naturally will be more attracted to it. I believe by using these things it will make my teaching more enjoyable for my students.
