Much of my growth outside the classroom has come from my professional work in financial compliance, where I supported cross‑departmental audits, communicated risk findings to leadership, and strengthened internal controls that protected the broader organizational community. One of the most defining experiences was participating in a real‑world data breach response. I worked alongside the technical responders by translating their findings into business‑focused language and clarifying financial exposure for leadership. This experience revealed a critical communication gap between technical teams and decision‑makers and ultimately inspired my transition into cybersecurity governance.
Beyond formal work responsibilities, I have continued to build my professional identity through independent study, earning a Compliance Management Professional Certificate and researching cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, and COBIT. These experiences helped me connect my academic learning to real organizational needs and strengthened my commitment to governance, risk, and compliance. They also prepared me to contribute meaningfully in future roles by combining interdisciplinary thinking with practical, real‑world insight skills essential for helping organizations build stronger, more resilient cybersecurity governance structures.
