Goals

There are many goals  I have achieved over the years in college but some professional goals I would like to achieve at the end of my internship at the ODU Center of Global  Health are to : gain related work experience,  increase my communication skills, and to  increase my critical thinking skills in the field.
Gaining related work experience: Transitioning from the classroom to the practice field is very interesting because it involves the use of the knowledge gained in the class to complete similar assignments in the field. This internship is very important to me because it will help me gain the necessary skills and knowledge, I need to enter the real world. For instance, the associate director of the center is planning to secure a spot for me to shadow a health administrator who will teach me about the field and what to expect in the future.
Increasing my communication skills:  First of all, communication skills involve a lot of listening and speaking, and as such is very important in everyday life. Although, I have earned some communication skills in the past, I occasionally had trouble communicating with  certain age groups and as such I needed to get rid out of the fear.  In the last few days, I was provided an opportunity to work on my communication skills by conducting phone interviews on a project’s follow up. This experience helped me in a way that I gained the basic skills on how to persuade the respondent to spare some time to allow me to conduct an interview.
Increasing my critical thinking skills: Critical thinking is very important in decision making and problem-solving in a way that it plays a huge role in resolving issues. I also believe that my internship would provide a lot of projects that will require me to use critical thinking to accomplish any given assignment. In all, the professional goals above are very important to me because they are essential in helping me build  great experience for my future.
