Task 1 Word Document

Agency

The agency I have chosen for my evaluation is Loudoun Families for Children. I have contacted the agency director, Kim Burke to set up a time for observations and to evaluate the agency. I am going to attend an informational session to gather more data on the process and volunteer information available as well. I want to understand the processes of the agency and how it functions based on donations and volunteers (Loudoun 2008).

Mission and Purpose

The agency’s mission and purpose is to provide emergency care, respite care, and mentoring to children in the Loudoun County area. Children are referred to the agency through LFC Board of Directors and the Loudoun County Department of Family Services. Children that are experiencing trauma or crisis need to be removed and placed in a temporary home can be placed with this agency. The agency is an alternative to foster care within the county (Loudoun 2008).

Population and Location

The agency accepts referrals based on children between newborn to 17 years of age that are in a crisis and need to be placed temporarily. The agency places children from the Loudoun County area into a temporary family. The family is volunteering a safe space for the child to stay until more permanent accommodations can be made. The child will be placed for up to 21 days into the volunteer’s home until additional plans are made for the child (Loudoun 2008).

Personal Choice

My choosing for this agency was based on personal decision. I have always had a passion working with children. I work as a preschool teacher now and want to continue working with children in the future. I have a drive to work with at-risk youth and children who need a voice and an advocate. This agency helps give me insight into services that are available to children in crisis or need intervention.
