I received the following message recently:

Hello,

My name is Bianca Sarai Orejel and I am the organizer of the Kelly Fowler for Delegate campaign. I wanted to reach out because we are currently looking for fellows to join our team. As you may know, Kelly Fowler is an alumni from Old Dominion and is currently running for re-election. This would be an amazing opportunity for students to get first-hand experience of campaigns and how they work. Attached I have a flyer with more information, please share this opportunity with your students. Thank you so much for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

Here’s the more detailed information about the fellowship and how to apply:

FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY: KELLY FOWLER FOR DELEGATE CAMPAIGN

Kelly Fowler for Delegate (HD-21) is looking for dedicated Fellows to help re-elect Delegate Fowler and keep Virginia Blue. Fellows will work alongside experienced political operatives and learn campaign strategy including direct voter contact, communications, and political outreach.

Responsibilities:

• Directly engage with voters via registration, online organizing, and other direct voter contact strategies

• Provide direct support to senior staff

• Be able to work in a competitive and team-based atmosphere with other motivated fellows and staff

Background:

Kelly Fowler was raised in Virginia Beach and decided to run for office to fight for women. She was inspired to run for Delegate after having attended the Women’s March in Washington DC. In one of the most competitive delegate races, Kelly was able to flip her district from red to blue. Kelly is leading the fight for Healthcare, Women’s Issues, and more. Throughout her time in office, Kelly has been able to pass Medicaid expansion, affecting 1,400 people in her district. As a former elementary school teacher, she pushed for a 5% pay increase for teachers in the last passed budget agreement. She has also fought for a resolution to have Virginia Beach join the American Flood Coalition so we can tackle flooding and sea-level rise.

Kelly’s district, House District 21, encompasses Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.

Requirements:

Fellows will commit to a minimum of 5 hours a week through the Nov. 2nd election, and can complete the fellowship remotely. No prior campaign experience is required to apply.
