The United States Equalitarian Party (USEP) is seeking two Norfolk VA based interns for calendar year 2023 (1 for Feb-Jun, and 1 for Jul-Nov).  This experience will provide an opportunity for participants to understand the requirements and challenges associated with starting a grassroots third party competitor to the current Democratic and Republican party duopoly (e.g., gaining familiarity with Federal Election Committee requirements, setting up an LLC, getting trademark protections, determining staffing / administrative needs, promoting party goals, etc.).  This is an unpaid entry level position focused on simultaneously helping the intern and party’s presence grow in concert with one another.  Interns would be requested to invest 10-15 hours a week.

Interns should be energetic self-starters interested in helping the USEP and its modest organizational staff grow in size and visibility.  Interns will be requested to perform a variety of functions aimed at increasing the online and public presence of the party.  This could include a wide range of administrative tasks such as checking, drafting, and answering correspondence, maintaining the party’s webpage, promoting party messaging through social media, and promoting / processing donations. Interns might also be asked to learn how to gain access to print, radio, and television outlets for media coverage and in-person interviews.

We believe these efforts would help the intern understand challenges third parties face in gaining public recognition and ballot access.  We would also promote the intern’s becoming familiar with the party’s platform / positions, the U.S. Constitution (to include the Federalist Papers), and other seminal political treatises – endeavors which would benefit the intern should they look to continue their path into politics.
