I just received this message. Looks like a great opportunity for a recent graduate or graduating student.

Forwarded message is below:

Hi Dr. Richman,

My name’s Nico, and I’m the Leadership Development Manager at the Virginia Civic Engagement Table. We’re hiring a spring/summer intern for a role that leads to a salaried position in September, and I’m curious if you could share with graduating seniors & recently graduated folx.

We’re ideally looking for somebody who is interested in statewide civic engagement with a deep emphasis on racial justice. This is a role that can tailor to their strengths – whether it’s operations & logistics, facilitation & training, voter access, data, program management, or curriculum building around community organizing, there’s opportunity here. It’s a stipend of $900 from March 15 – April 30 about 10 hrs/week primarily for onboarding purposes. Then, it’s a $2,500/month stipend May-August about 40 hrs/week. It’s primarily virtual with some in-state travel required. Laptop, internet access, and any other equipment/tools can provided. More information can be found in the JD here (pdf also attached). We’re accepting applications on a rolling basis until Sunday, February 5th.

Below is a blurb if helpful or please let me know if there’s anything else I can do. Any qs about the role can be sent my way – feel free to pass along my contact info.

Summer Internship Opportunity: Program + Operations Associate

The Virginia Civic Engagement Table is hiring an intern for the summer (with light onboarding in the spring). There is opportunity for this role to lead into a salaried position starting in September. The program you’ll be focused on is the Virginia Progressive Leadership Program  (VAPLP). VAPLP is a four-month experiential learning & training program from May to August that provides community leaders and organizers the knowledge, skills, and connections they need to strengthen their work in advancing equity & social justice in Virginia. Participants who attend the program engage in four weekend-long trainings, each with its own area of focus: positionality + community, storytelling + narrative, grassroots organizing, and community-centric fundraising. You would support logistics, event management, curriculum design, facilitation, and communication. Through that, you’ll also be able to craft this position to your own strengths and areas you want to grow or develop.

This role is a great fit for someone who loves working with people just as much as they love logistics and is driven by a sense of purpose to create a more equitable and just Virginia. Research shows that people from minoritized groups apply to jobs only if they meet every single qualification. We encourage you to break that statistic and apply; no one meets every qualification.

The short is that it’s primarily virtual; $900 stipend for 10 hrs/week March 15 – April 30 and $2,500/month May – August 40 hrs/week with some weekend travel. Accepting applications on a rolling basis until Sunday, February 5th. More on the role, responsibilities, work environment, and application materials can be found here (pdf attached). If you have any questions, please email Nico, Leadership Development Manager, at nico@engageva.org

Warmly,

Nico
